What Makes Monkstown Pool Different?

  • The Pool: 25 metres, proper depth throughout (1m to 2m), which means you can actually work on your technique without worrying about scraping your knuckles on the bottom. The varying depth is great for drills and endurance sets. Water temperature tends to run on the warmer side – some swimmers love it, others find it takes a few sessions to adjust. Either way, you won’t be gasping from cold shock.
  • Location That Actually Works: Monkstown Avenue – locals know it, everyone else can find it. Coming from Blackrock? Five minutes. Dún Laoghaire? Easy. If you’re on the DART, Salthill & Monkstown station is a short walk away. Driving? Over 80 free parking spaces. Yes, free. In South Dublin. We know.
  • Community Feel (Without the Cheesy Stuff): This pool’s been here for over 40 years. Generations of Dubliners learned to swim in what used to be called the Blue Pool. The staff know the regulars, the regulars know each other, and there’s a coffee dock for those post-swim chats. It’s a proper local spot – not some sterile chain gym.

Over 80 free parking spaces right at the centre. Meet at the front desk 10 minutes before class starts – don’t head straight to the changing rooms. Your SwimCamp coach will collect the group from reception and take everyone through together.

If you’re coming by DART, Salthill & Monkstown station is about a 10-minute walk. Bus routes 7, 7A, and 63 stop nearby too.

25-metre main pool, depth ranging from 1m to 2m – good for all kinds of training. There’s also a learner pool if you need it. Individual changing cubicles, lockers (bring a 50 cent coin – you get it back), and hot showers that actually work. The place has been around since the early 80s but it’s well maintained. Staff are consistently friendly – people mention it a lot in reviews.

One thing: the water temperature tends to be warmer than some pools. Most swimmers adapt quickly, but if you’re used to cooler water, just be aware.

Pool entry is included in your SwimCamp course fee. Just let reception know you’re with SwimCamp. If you want to practice between classes, that’s €6–€8 per swim, or you can grab a DLR membership for regular access – that also covers their Loughlinstown and Meadowbrook centres.
