Private Swimming Lessons in Dublin

Gain skills & confidence with private coaching.

“I’ve gained so much confidence in the water thanks to SwimCamp’s private lessons.”Jessica N., Dalkey

You and one coach. No sharing attention, no following someone else’s pace, no pretending you understood that drill when you didn’t. Private swimming lessons at SwimCamp mean every single minute is about your swimming — what’s working, what’s not, and exactly how to fix it.

Available by request at our Dublin South locations and Clontarf Baths outdoor pool. Fill out the form below and we’ll match you with the right coach.

We run plenty of group sessions and they’re brilliant for most swimmers. But sometimes you need something different. Maybe you’ve got a specific problem — that breathing timing that falls apart after 50 metres, or legs that sink the moment you think about your arms. Maybe you’re nervous and the idea of learning alongside strangers makes the whole thing harder. Or maybe you just want to fast-track your progress and get proper, undivided coaching.

That’s what private one-to-one swimming lessons are for. Your coach watches only you. They spot the habits you can’t feel, break things down at whatever speed makes sense, and build a plan around what you actually need — not what the group needs.

  • A proper technique assessment including above- and below-water video analysis. Your coach analyses your stroke, breathing, body position, and kick. You’ll know exactly what’s holding you back — and what to work on first.
  • Drills that target your weaknesses. Not a generic set. Specific exercises chosen because they fix your specific issues.
  • Honest feedback, every length. In a group of eight, your coach might see your stroke twice per session. In a private lesson, they see every single one.
  • A take-away plan. Drills and focus points you can practise between sessions so you’re not just improving during the lesson — you’re improving between them too.

We keep this simple because it should be simple.

  • You get in touch. Fill out the request form below. Tell us a bit about your swimming level, what you’re hoping to achieve, and which location suits you.
  • We match you with a coach. All our private lesson coaches are Swim Ireland-certified and experienced with adult and child learners. We’ll pair you with someone who fits your goals — whether that’s building confidence from scratch or shaving seconds off your 400m.
  • Your first session. 30 minutes for beginners and intermediate swimmers. 45 minutes for advanced swimmers. Your coach assesses where you’re at, identifies what to work on, and gets straight into it. No wasted time.
  • You leave with a plan. After every session, you’ll know exactly what to practise and what comes next. We’re not in the business of keeping you in private lessons forever — the goal is to get you swimming better, whether that means joining a group class, training independently, or hitting a race target.

We’d love to tell you we’ve reinvented swimming coaching. We haven’t. We just do the basics properly.

  • Swim Ireland-certified coaches. Every private lesson instructor holds a recognised Swim Ireland coaching qualification. They know stroke mechanics, they know how to teach adults, and they know when to push and when to back off.
  • Coaches who actually watch. Sounds obvious, right? But you’d be surprised how many “private” lessons involve a coach standing at the end of the lane shouting instructions. Our coaches are poolside, focused, and giving you real-time feedback on every length.
  • Technique-first approach. We’re not just going to make you swim more lengths. We’ll make you swim better lengths. Getting you to think about what you’re doing in the water — not just go through the motions.
  • A path forward. Private lessons shouldn’t be a dead end. We’ll help you build toward something — whether that’s the confidence to join one of our group sessions, the technique to train on your own, or the fitness to enter a race.

Private one-to-one lessons are available by request at our indoor pool in the Dún Laoghaire area (Dublin South) and at Clontarf Baths outdoor pool — a 40-metre filtered seawater pool on Dublin Bay, seasonal from spring through autumn. Tell us your preferred location, your level, and what you’re working on. We’ll match you with the right coach.

Private Swimming Lessons Dublin — Your Questions Answered

A private one-to-one session at SwimCamp is €60. We offer single sessions and blocks — blocks give your coach time to build a proper programme and you’ll see better results. Get in touch to discuss what works for you.

One Private Swimming Sessions is 30 minutes. Sounds short, but one-to-one coaching is intense — you’re working the entire time.

Absolutely. Complete beginners are a big part of what we do. Your coach starts wherever you’re at — even if that’s standing in the shallow end getting comfortable with water on your face.

Complete beginners usually need 6–10 sessions to get comfortable. Stroke improvement typically takes 4–6. Your coach will give you an honest timeline after your first session — we’re not going to string you along.

We’d always recommend trying a group session first — they’re social, motivating, and our coaches still keep a close eye on every swimmer. If we spot someone in a group who needs a bit more attention, we’ll flag it and help them there too. Private lessons are really for swimmers who need something very specific: overcoming serious anxiety, fixing a particular technique issue, or preparing for an event. Our private slots are limited, so we keep them for the people who’ll genuinely benefit most from one-to-one time.

Yes. We work with a lot of triathletes and open water swimmers — sighting, pacing, bilateral breathing, swimming without lane ropes. Clontarf Baths sessions use filtered seawater, so you’re training in conditions close to the real thing.
